The Aeolian Islands are an archipelago of seven volcanic islands located in the Tyrrhenian Sea, north of Sicily. They are a UNESCO World Heritage site due to their geological and volcanological importance.

The seven islands are:

  • Alicudi: the wildest and most unspoiled island, ideal for those seeking tranquility and nature.
  • Filicudi: famous for its sea caves and seabeds rich in marine life.
  • Lipari: the largest and most populated island, with a lively historic center and numerous beaches.
  • Panarea: the most exclusive and fashionable island, frequented by the international jet set.
  • Salina: the greenest and most fertile island, famous for the production of capers and Malvasia wine.
  • Stromboli: the island of the active volcano, with its spectacular nocturnal eruptions.
  • Vulcano: the island of thermal mud baths and fumaroles, with a suggestive and primordial atmosphere.

Main characteristics:

  • Volcanic origin: the islands were formed by submarine volcanic activity, and some of them, like Stromboli and Vulcano, are still active.
  • Breathtaking landscapes: the islands offer spectacular views, with cliffs plunging into the sea, black sand beaches, hidden coves, and imposing volcanoes.
  • Unique flora and fauna: the islands are home to rich and varied flora and fauna, with endemic and protected species.
  • Cultural heritage: the islands have a millennial history, with archaeological evidence dating back to the Bronze Age.
  • Activities: the Aeolian Islands offer numerous activities, such as boat excursions, trekking, scuba diving, thermal baths, and volcano visits.

Stromboli in particular:

  • Stromboli is an active volcano, one of the most active in the world. Its persistent eruptive activity, with regular explosions, has earned it the nickname "lighthouse of the Mediterranean."
  • The volcano is constantly monitored by the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology (INGV) to prevent any risks to the population.

The Aeolian Islands are an ideal destination for those seeking a holiday full of nature, relaxation, and adventure.
